Created for students by students in 1996, the first Brown Endowed Scholarship Fund was awarded in 1998, allowing bright students from around the world the opportunity to attend Brown University, regardless of their ability to pay. The Brown International Scholarships are awarded based on the financial need of academically qualified students who are not citizens of the United States or Canada.
Since its inception, the Brown International Scholarship Committee (BISC) has worked in close collaboration with Brown’s Office of International Advancement. Today it remains entirely student-run and has already established four endowed scholarships, with a fifth one on its way. These scholarships have been entirely funded by generous alumni, parents, and friends of Brown.
